January Community Service

January Service Hours: 2 hrs

Cumulative Semester Hours: 2 hrs

January kicked off with a meaningful volunteer experience at HEROES during their orientation for new student participants and their families. This event was all about welcoming students into the program and helping parents feel comfortable and informed as their children began this new journey.

Alongside Mayesen, I helped with the check-in process, greeting families as they arrived and making sure everyone was signed in and directed where they needed to go. For many parents, this was their first time in the building, so we also gave tours of the facility, answering questions and helping them get familiar with the space. It was really special to see how excited the students were and how appreciative the parents were to have someone walk them through the environment.

Being part of orientation reminded me how important first impressions are, especially for programs like HEROES that aim to support and empower students. Helping create a welcoming and organized start for these families felt rewarding, and it was a great way to begin the year by giving back to the community. I’m grateful for the opportunity to support HEROES and look forward to continuing to volunteer throughout the year.
