March Comunity Service Hours

March Service Hours: 12 hrs

Cumulative Semester Hours: 17 hrs

During the month of March, I had the opportunity to participate in multiple volunteer experiences that allowed me to give back to the community while reinforcing my passion for healthcare and service. One of the highlights was volunteering with the Tulane Brain Institute at a STEM Day event hosted by the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans. This experience allowed me to engage with youth while promoting the importance of brain health and STEM education in a fun and interactive environment.

At the event, I was responsible for educating students on the importance of protecting their brains, especially when participating in contact sports. We discussed how injuries like concussions can impact brain function and why protective equipment is essential. One of the most engaging activities involved a hands-on experiment where students used arts and crafts materials to design protective “helmets” for a boiled egg to prevent it from cracking when dropped. This activity helped them understand the importance of safety, engineering, and problem-solving in a creative way. Additionally, students had the opportunity to observe and interact with a real sheep brain, which sparked curiosity and excitement while introducing them to basic concepts of brain anatomy.

In addition to the STEM event, I also volunteered at a local food pantry during the month of March. During this experience, I assisted with organizing and distributing food items to community members in need. This opportunity allowed me to directly support individuals and families while gaining a deeper appreciation for the importance of accessibility to essential resources. It was a meaningful reminder of the impact that small acts of service can have on a community.

Overall, my volunteer experiences in March were both fulfilling and impactful. Volunteering alongside my classmates made these moments even more meaningful, and each experience reinforced my commitment to service, community outreach, and making a difference in the lives of others.
