April Service Hours: 17 hrs
Cumulative Semester Hours: 34 hrs
At the beginning of April, I participated in a service initiative with my pharmacology class, where we worked together to assemble hygiene kits for a local homeless shelter. This experience highlighted the importance of addressing basic needs within underserved communities and reinforced how small, collective efforts can make a meaningful impact on individuals facing difficult circumstances.
Later in the month, I had the opportunity to return home to Nebraska and volunteer at a local daycare center. During my time there, I engaged with children in both educational and creative settings, which further strengthened my passion for service and community involvement.
One of my primary responsibilities was tutoring children in subjects such as reading, writing, and basic math. Working one-on-one and in small groups, I helped reinforce foundational skills while encouraging confidence and curiosity in their learning. It was incredibly rewarding to see the children become more engaged and excited about their academic progress.
In addition to tutoring, I collaborated with staff to help organize activities for the upcoming summer program, including planning interactive and age-appropriate games and educational projects. I also assisted in creating and updating bulletin boards, designing displays that were both visually engaging and educational for the children.
Overall, my volunteer experiences this April were both fulfilling and impactful. From supporting my local community through service projects to working directly with children in an educational setting, these experiences reinforced my commitment to giving back and making a positive difference in the lives of others.
